Description by the author

On this tour, you will experience three different natural areas at once: the Kinzigtal, the Spessart and the Sinntal. The start is in the spa town of Bad Soden-Salmünster heading east. The Kinzig now accompanies you as far as Sterbfritz. The tour initially runs along the Hessian long-distance cycle path R 3, passing the Kinzig reservoir, where you may want to take your first break or a short boat trip. Then you reach the Brothers Grimm town of Steinau an der Straße, where you can follow in the footsteps of the brothers, whose family lived in the Amtshaus. Or you can marvel at the mighty Renaissance castle in the town center. From Steinau, it is approx. 7 km to the center of Schlüchtern, which will delight you with its charming alleyways, picturesque corners and historic buildings. In Schlüchtern, leave the R3 at the traffic circle. After crossing the crosswalk, turn left after 20 m at the Napoleonstürmchen next to the Kinzig bridge into the Mauerwiesen park. Now follow the Kinzig for approx. 200 m with a view of the three towers of the town before crossing it. Along Bornwiesenweg (left) and Alte Ahlersbacher Straße (uphill), turn left onto Huhnweg to Herolz. In Herolz, follow Riedweg, cross Ahlensbacher Straße and take Sannerzer Straße until it branches off. Then turn into Engelsweg at Lotichshaus. Pass the Heeghöfe farms and the Gerlings- and Steinmühle mills to reach Vollmerz. At the main road Vollmerz-Sannerz, turn right and follow this road (L 3207) for 1.5 km until it meets the L 3180, where you turn left into Lindenstraße. You have now reached Sannerz. From here, follow the cycle path to Sterbfritz. In Sterbfritz, follow the signs to Kinzigquelle and from the sports field continue along the cycle path towards Mottgers. In the center of Mottgers you meet the marked Hessian R 2 and cycle along the narrow Sinn for about 4 km. Here you can enjoy a magnificent view of the landmark of the municipality of Sinntal, Schwarzenfels Castle. An ascent to the castle is rewarded with a magnificent view over the Sinntal and the nearby Rhön. The R 2 then turns left and leads through Zeitlofs in Bavaria before returning to Hesse along the railroad to Altengronau. The old Hutten Castle with its mighty stone walls dominates the entrance to the Sinntal district. From Altengronau, it is just under 4 km to the finish at Dittbrunner Hof. From there, you can continue the tour through the Sinntal valley to Gemünden (approx. 23 km) on the Main cycle path.
