In the land of the Knights of Hutten

Altengronau was the center of the Knights of Hutten, one of the most famous Franconian noble families, for centuries. The European cultural trail takes you past their castles and, with the Jewish cemetery and the Auengrund, to pearls of the cultural landscape between the Spessart and Rhön regions.

Way description:

The cultural trail leads from the church square with a short detour to the nearby Huttenburg castle, which is still inhabited by the Barons of Hutten today. Walking through the village, you reach the next stop "Altes Wasserschloss / ehem. Marmorwerk" via the main road. The ruins of the castle can still be seen on the former industrial site. After crossing the Sinn, the route continues uphill via the "Judenpfl aster" to the "Jewish cemetery" station. From here, accompanied by a beautiful view down into the village, we reach the Sinntal floodplain with the Aspen / Hütte districts, where the last station of the cultural trail, "Glashütte", is located. There are almost 100 meters of altitude difference to overcome.
