Wolfshagen im Harz offers ideal conditions for hiking: numerous kilometers of well-developed and signposted hiking trails invite you to explore the North Harz Forest, discover the surroundings, and enjoy nature.

The highlight among the circular hiking trails is the themed trail Track of the Stones.

Directions

The trail leads you around the renaturalized former diabase quarry and explains the development of the quarry, which was closed in 1986, with signs, descriptions, and photos. Today, the quarry is a large biotope for rare plants and animals. For example, the eagle owl and midwife toad are visible and audible, a variety of rare dragonfly species make the quarry unique.

To show how small the contrasts between the forest and the quarry are and that a new nature has emerged, this circular hiking trail was created by the Lower Saxony Forestry Office Seesen. Sculptures and reliefs made from local diabase blocks are placed at viewpoints and exposed locations, providing another reason for small and big hiking enthusiasts to explore the Track of the Stones and enjoy the panoramic view into the former quarry from the created viewpoint.

The themed trail Track of the Stones has already been awarded as a Geopoint in the Geopark Harz-Braunschweiger Land-Ostfalen.
