Rickenbach: Auf der Sonnenterrasse des südlichen Hotzenwaldes.

A varied hike with wonderful views of the surrounding region, the Swiss Jura and, weather permitting (especially in autumn), the imposing peaks of the Swiss Alps.

The circular hike on the sun terrace of the Hotzenwald begins at the bus station below the church in Rickenbach. After a short climb towards Fohrenbühl, you have a wonderful panoramic view of the typical Hotzenwald landscape and the village of Rickenbach. Weather permitting, the hike offers hikers a breathtaking view of the Swiss Jura and the gigantic Alpine chain. In Wickartsmühle, it is worth taking a short detour (approx. 500 m) into the wild and romantic Murg Valley to the 13 m high Strahlbrusch waterfall. The route continues leisurely through a coniferous forest typical of the Hotzenwald, the Beuggenwald, to the Kühmoos transformer station, which was built in the 1960s. Here you can still discover remnants of an old raised bog. However, most of it fell victim to the construction of the transformer station. Clear information boards along the hiking trail provide information on the history of energy generation in the Hotzenwald. The hike can then be continued at a leisurely pace to the Bergalingen television tower. From the top of the tower, you have another magnificent panoramic view, which now extends to the Rhine Valley and the Vosges mountains. After a while, we cross the Heidewuhr, an artificial water channel mentioned in a document in 1457. The Hotzenwald also has other canals built in the Middle Ages, also known as Wuhr or Wühre. They were built for the irrigation of meadows and for the operation of businesses in the valley. At 14 km, the Heidenwuhr is one of the longest of the Hotzenwald canals and flows into the Schöpfebach stream near Egg. The scenic hike now leads via Willaringen back to Rickenbach.
