Description by the author

Ride along one of Germany's most popular bike paths, always keeping an eye on the border rivers and forgetting about everyday life in the blink of an eye! With a total length of 152 kilometers, the Oder-Neisse Cycle Path with its green triangle symbol crosses the Oder-Spree Lake District. On this section described here, you will enjoy breathtaking nature and explore exciting places like Neuzelle, Eisenhüttenstadt and Frankfurt (Oder).

Start: Coschen train station
Destination: Frankfurt (Oder) train station
Length: 62 km; 3.5 hours
Arrival: RE2 to Cottbus, RB43 or RE1 to Frankfurt (Oder), RE10.
Departure: RE1 from Frankfurt (Oder)

Along the dike to the Cross of Encounter Having landed in Coschen by train, it's worth making a first detour at the bridge leading into neighboring Poland with the melodious name "Neißewelle". Today, however, you stay in Germany and set out on the country's easternmost bike path. Getting lost is actually impossible. The Oder-Neisse Cycle Path runs mostly along the dike, where you can gaze out from your saddle and take in the natural scenery. Soon you will reach Ratzdorf and the point where the Neisse and Oder rivers kiss. The mouth of the river is marked with a large wooden cross. The gauge house showed a sad record level of 6.76 meters during the flood of the century in 1997. Nearby is also the "Kajüte", a cultural center that puts on a great program of events, especially in the summer. Architectural journey through time A little further on, you should deviate from the Oder-Neisse Cycle Path and take a detour to the resort town of Neuzelle. Brandenburg's baroque wonder with its museums and monastery garden is a must-see. A few kilometers to the north, another highlight awaits you: Eisenhüttenstadt. The planned city was built especially for the steelworks in the 1950s and is now considered one of the largest and most worth seeing area monuments in Germany. Downstream to the German-Polish twin city If you're not in too much of a hurry, you should stop every now and then on your way, get off the dike and go directly to the Oder. There is something soothing about the way the waters of the great Oder River flow past you. The black-red-gold border posts are the only reminder that a border runs through here. In the Kleist city of Frankfurt (Oder), you must not get on the train right away, because there is still so much to see: the St. Marien church with the valuable choir windows, where you can enjoy fantastic views from the church tower, the world's only Kleist museum or the many great gardens and parks.

Tip: Take the ferry (planned) from Aurith to Urad and enjoy the view from the observation tower! Please inform yourself in advance about the ferry service!
