Description by the author

“Probably the most relaxing place not far from Berlin”, says the Google rating. You will reactivate your energies on this bike tour through the Märkische Schweiz Nature Park.

Nature has finally awakened and so has your urge to go outside? What could be better than feeling the wind in your face, enjoying great landscapes and boosting your energy flow with a few meters of altitude? Here, not far east of the capital, the last ice age created the perfect spot for your late riser tour: hills and small gorges that you can feel in your legs, wide views over forests and lakes that let you breathe deeply and a lot of field stone romance that will impress you.

Your setting to come down:
Peace and nature: attractive half-day tour far away from the annoying trafficVariety: deep green forests, wide fields, 6 idyllic lakes, wild fruit trees and romantic villages made of field stoneDreamy: Brecht really liked the hidden jewel Buckow on the turquoise Schermützelsee.Focused: exciting stories in the visitor centers of the nature park (Swiss house, new opening in summer) and 3 oaks.Sundowner for the finale: end the tour at Straussee.

Start: Trebnitz train station
Destination: Strausberg S-Bahn or Rehfelde station
Length: 38 km or 35 km / approx. 3 hours
Getting there by public transport: RB26 from Ostkreuz / Lichtenberg to Trebnitz station
Exit public transport: Strausberg City: S5 / Rehfelde station: RB26

Through the smallest and oldest nature park in Brandenburg
After a 50-minute drive, in Trebnitz you take the R1 European cycle route in the direction of Berlin. A fresh breeze whispers around your ears, your hair flies and it smells and hears what you have longed for: nature in bloom, the crackling and rolling of the wheels, humming bees, chirping birds. With luck you will also see storks, red and black kites, sea eagles and cranes. At Münchehofe, it is worth taking a detour to the Großer Klobichsee. There are also stops at the Binnendüne natural monument, the babbling Mühlenfließ and the Waldcafe 3 Eichen. Here at the environmental center there is free refill for your water bottle, because the next ascent is sure to come!

Buckow, my pearl
Hamburg is a pearl, but Buckow even more. Fontane said! It goes steeply down to the pretty town on the Schermützelsee. Brecht and Weigel had their summer cottage here. You can visit it as well as the nature park center. Small alleys with arable houses and villas lead to the market with cafes. There is also refreshment at the water treading points of health guru Kneipp: directly on the lake or on the Stobber river near the watermill in the castle park.

Trail of the field stones
From the mountain shepherd’s on, go out of the forest into the open field. You pass dreamy villages with old field stone buildings that blend into the picturesque landscape. It is green and blooming on wild hedges. Small organic farms produce juice from the orchards and fruit avenues in the region. Those who are not afraid of a bit of Brandenburg sand can follow the tour via Hohenstein to Strausberg. The little adventure over the short trail is worthwhile with a fantastic view. Those who prefer to roll out on asphalt continue on the R1, marvel at the field stone pyramid in Garzau and get back to Berlin in Rehfelde. Everyone else is rewarded with a sundowner at Straussee in Strausberg. You deserve it!

Refreshment tips (mostly regional & organic):
Trebnitz, Obersdorf, Münchehofe: Café zum Glück, Gasthaus zur Ostbahn, Café Landei, snack bar, camping site; Waldcafé 3 oaks;
Buckow: various cafes + restaurants
Waldsieversdorf: Café Tilia
Strausberg: Amiceria
Various organic farm shops to try and shop along the way
