Description by the author

Without “Old Fritz”, we might still be travelling through the Oderbruch (former marshland) in Wellington boots instead of by bike on this e-bike tour of the Lebuser Land region and the Reitweiner Sporn mountain. The Prussian king arranged for this marshland to be drained around 1750. “Old Fritz” transformed the marshes into fertile agricultural land.

Route description:
The start of the tour is in Golzow. Here you will find the Filmmuseum Potsdam, which evokes memories of the long-running series “The Children of Golzow”. The tour heads south to Sachendorf, where you will find a medieval church. Heading towards Alt Zeschdorf, which is situated on a beautiful bathing lake, the tour passes by the Pontic slopes of Mallnow. In Wulkow you will find the Ökospeicher, a former granary that has been converted and now houses an organic shop and café, seminar rooms with exhibitions as well as holiday apartments and rooms.

The tour now takes you on the Oder-Neiße Cycle Path as you continue towards Lebus. The Oderhänge nature conservation area is located near Lebus. The mountain ridges sloping down to the Oder River glow in bright yellow in the spring when the rare pheasant's eye flowers blossom here. You will find a museum on the area in and around Lebus and the town church in Lebus.

The next highlight of the tour is the Reitweiner Sporn. The forest-covered hills are a beautiful natural backdrop, which for about a thousand years represented a strategically important location for the warlords at the time. In the municipality of Reitwein you will discover other sights indicating that it was a military location. For example, the Slavic castle wall, Zhukov's command post and the Diplomatentreppe, a staircase built during the times of the German Democratic Republic to facilitate invited diplomats to climb the dike. Furthermore, you can visit the church built by the Prussian builder Friedrich August Stüler and the flood memorial monument as well as the museums in Küstrin and Bleyen. The tour continues along the Oder Dam for a little while until it then heads inland and back to Golzow.
