Description

From the city center of Freyburg (Unstrut), known for gymnastics, wine, and sparkling wine, you can hike to the Rotkäppchen sparkling wine cellar. To the left of the historic cellars, the Gartenstraße and the entrance to the Schweigenberg circular trail begin.
The circular trail, signposted in 2016, partly follows the Geopfad Zscheiplitz, the Feengrotten-Kyffhäuser-Weg, and the Saale-Unstrut wine educational trail.
On this moderately difficult hike above and below the vineyards, you will pass historical limestone quarries, may have the chance to meet the miller of the Zeddenbach mill, and enjoy the idyllic view of the Unstrut valley from the Zscheiplitz monastery church.
Dont miss the opportunity to taste the wine where it grows. The wine taverns along the route are open for you, following the motto When the ostrich hangs, its time to pour. Complete your hike with a detour to the Bodelschwingh monument or the Mägdestein.

Travel information

Car: A9 (exit Naumburg) - B180 (towards Naumburg). From Berlin: Exit Leuna (A38) - B91 - B176 - B180 to Freyburg.
Train: You can reach Freyburg by ICE, IC, or regional train via Naumburg. From Naumburg to Freyburg, take the Burgenlandbahn (Line: Naumburg - Wangen).
Bus: Freyburg can be reached by the PVG Burgenlandkreis and the PNVG Merseburg-Querfurt.
