Description

You can hardly wait to set off on foot, as the visit to Schönburg awaits you right at the beginning of the hike. The castle and the village nestle closely to the rocks, and the red sandstone is striking in the village. From the castle, there is a wide view of the Saaletal to Naumburg and the village itself.
A short steep climb leads to Fachberg. From here, there are views to Naumburg, the Saale River, and Schönburg – a dreamy resting place.
The varied hike goes through fields with a view of Goseck, through a deciduous forest, past meadows and clearings, vineyards, and finally to the Stone Angel in Kroppental. The Stone Angel is believed to be a precursor to the Stone Picture Book of Großjena.
Next to the Stone Angel, there is a kind of sitting niche. Here, you can let your thoughts wander, watched over by the angel. A bridge over the Wethau River leads directly to the Kroppenmühle and later to the Neumühle. Continuing along the Saale, you will also see the confluence of the Wethau with the Saale. Towards the end of the hike, Schönburg greets you.

A total of five information boards placed along the way provide extensive information on the topics Paths through the Schönburg Rocks, Sandstone of Schönburg, Schönburg in the Saale Valley, Spring Water from the Depths of the Rocks, and Sandstone and Wine.
