Description

Scenically very attractive, it leads on the old railway line from Zeitz to Stöben near Camburg. Shaded sections alternate with open landscapes.
The Sugar Railway Cycle Path is the networker among cycle paths. In Zeitz, a switch to the Elster Cycle Path is possible, and in Stöben near Camburg, the connection to the Saale Cycle Path.

Between Kretzschau and Osterfeld, a section of the Saale-Unstrut-Elster Cycle Path runs on the Sugar Railway Cycle Path. This also provides a connection to the Unstrut Cycle Path.
With the RECARBO Coal Cycle Path starting in Kretzschau, which also runs on the Saale-Unstrut-Elster Cycle Path, a connection to the Mondsee, Hohenmölsen, and further to the Saale Cycle Path towards Weißenfels is possible.
In Osterfels itself, you have the opportunity to enjoy gastronomy or, in good weather, take a detour to the Naturbad.
The advantage of this cycle path is obvious - its almost endless combination possibilities with other cycle paths.
Taking a detour from the Sugar Railway Cycle Path to Schkölen offers the possibility to connect to the Renewable Energies cycle route towards the Saale Cycle Path in Würchhausen and the Elster Cycle Path in Crossen. Further on to Eisenberg to the popular Thuringian Mill Cycle Path and to Dorndorf towards the Saale Cycle Path.
Of course, culture is not neglected - because in Zeitz, Moritzburg Castle, the castle park, and the Herrmannschacht briquette factory are worth a visit. In Droyßig, there is a castle with a castle church and its own bear enclosure.
With 36 km, the Sugar Railway Cycle Path is not too long but impresses with 1000 possibilities for planning circular and linear routes.

The Sugar Railway Cycle Path is continuously asphalted and therefore suitable for bikes with narrow tires.
Several information boards (with a bike map for orientation) and covered rest areas are located directly on the cycle path. A clear signposting with local names and distances along the cycle path.

The Sugar Railway Cycle Path has low inclines, max. 3%.
