It is a joint project of churches, tourism associations, municipalities, and other organizations. The trail is aimed at pilgrims, hikers, and visitors interested in the Reformation and its effects.
The Luther Trail leads through picturesque landscapes, to places whose significance is revealed by the effects of the Reformation movement. Numerous stops in cities and smaller towns welcome you. They offer interesting insights into their respective special topics, enabling an engagement with Martin Luther and other reformers.
Extended Tour Description:Walking, observing, praying, finding peace – that is what the Luther Trail invites you to do. With a total length of nearly 3,000 km, it spans the five states of Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony, Thuringia, Bavaria, and Hesse.
Record the visited stations along the Luther Trail in the form of pilgrimage stamps in your pilgrimage passport, and conclude a day full of impressions and inner reflection with the pilgrims blessing in quiet contemplation. Pilgrimage stamps and the pilgrims blessing are available for a fee from the German Luther Trail Society.
The Luther Trails of all five states form a common network of paths, which also passes through Saale-Unstrut. The start and end of a pilgrimage section can be chosen individually.
