Short Description

10-kilometer circular hiking trail in the idyllic Zeitzgrund.

Description

The ten-kilometer Zeitzgrund trail connects various regional experience and viewpoint points as a circular hiking trail, as well as the four mills of the pristine Zeitzgrund between Hermsdorf and Stadtroda. With its untouched flora and fauna in the midst of the narrow valley, the Zeitzgrund appears a bit wilder than the nearby Eisenberger Mühltal. Due to its many rare mosses, ferns, and the original mixed forests, Douglas firs, and beech trees, the Zeitzgrund is a designated landscape protection area. The mills of the Zeitzgrund can be traced back to the 14th century and today welcome their guests as cozy restaurants, guesthouses, or equestrian farms.

Rest stops:
Brewery Inn &: Guesthouse Ziegenmühle
Janismühle: Restaurant &: Equestrian Center
Naturhof Papiermühle Zeitzgrund

Special Features:

Directions

You start your tour at the forest parking lot at the historic Pechofen. From here, you hike down the cool Läusegrund towards the idyllic Bockteiche. You now hike along the Zeitzbach, parallel to the Thuringian Städtekette cycle path, past the historic mills of the Zeitzgrund. Via Bockmühle, Ziegenmühle, Janismühle, and Papiermühle, you finally reach the peaceful Rabsgrund.

You follow the path uphill to Raubberg and come across the remains of the former large and small Rabsburg. The path then leads you downhill into the pristine Falkental and eventually reaches the shelter at the Hubertusquelle, which invites you to refresh and linger. You then hike along the Zeitzbach wall around Mittelberg and thus reach Köhlersberg. After a short detour into Läusegrund, you reach the Pechofen after 10 kilometers, the starting point of your tour.

Note: On your circular hike, you will be accompanied by the various trail markings of local and cross-border hiking trails (marking symbol of the Zeitzgrund trail: green ZG).
