There are few places that are so firmly linked to Fontane as Ribbeck: the poem about the man from Ribbeck in the Havelland region made Fontane a household name in Germany as well putting the little village with its manor house in the limelight. The tour runs through Westhavelland Nature Park and offers a number of entry and exit points in Rathenow, Nennhausen, Nauen and Brieselang. The model farm estate once belonged to locomotive magnate Borsig (today Landgut Stober) and has been a hotel and restaurant for several years now.
This sixth stage of the FONTANE.RAD Bicycle Tour leads from the Havelland Musenhof Schloss Nennhausen, or alternatively from Rathenow – where the optics industry is based – to Buschow in Westhavelland Nature Park. The former estate belonging to the von Knesebeck family has not survived, but it is easy to spot the rare great bustard here – one of the heaviest flying birds in the world. In Groß Behnitz, the terrace of the café at Landgut Stober offers a magnificent view over the lake, Groß Behnitzer See, which forms part of a historic landscape park. The bicycle tour continues on to Ribbeck: the poem about the man from Ribbeck in the Havelland region is one of the most frequently quoted poems in the German language. At Schloss Ribbeck there is a restaurant and a museum, while the village green is an ideal spot for a walk. The next stop is Nauen with its historic old town. If you like you can exit the tour here at Nauen railway station. After a detour to the Fontane village of Bredow, the tour continues to Brieselang.
