Traumschleife Mühlenbach Schluchten-Tour

A good mix of short and long forest passages alternating with short and longer meadow passages. The highlight of the hike is the route through the Mühlenbach gorge via steps, footbridges and bridges.

The entrance portal to the Mühlenbach gorge tour is clearly visible just a stone's throw from the parking lot at the Saarwald-Verein refuge. After a short forest passage, a narrow meadow path follows. Shady forest passages alternate with forest and meadow meadows through the gently undulating landscape.From a meadow path, you enter the accessible gorge of the Mühlenbach stream. Here you can see the elemental force with which the Mühlenbach has carved its way into the sandstone. The meanders of the Mühlenbach can be followed from several viewing platforms. Only the sound of the stream can be heard. Dippers provide an entertaining spectacle as they fly through the gorge.

After crossing the Vorderer Weierkopf forest, the Marienkapelle chapel is located in the Rotwäldchen forest above Saarwellingen. It was built in 1950 by men from Saarwellingen who, by building the chapel, set an example for a happy return from the Second World War. From the benches in front of the chapel, a wide view of the countryside, with the first houses of Saarwellingen in front of us, the Litermont rising behind it, the Ensdorf slag heap on the left and behind it the mountain ranges rising from the Saar valley into the Saargau with the Europa 1 transmission masts.
