Improvement Tour (Red Route)

If you venture into the area of the former Eyterbruch between Thedinghausen, Emtinghausen, Schwarme, Bruchhausen-Vilsen, and Hoya today, you can no longer imagine that almost 130 years ago the largest project for the improvement and drainage of agricultural land in Central Europe was carried out here.The word Melioration comes from Latin and means a soil improvement to increase the agricultural yield capacity of the soil.Improving and draining soil is probably the most important task of melioration. The Melioration project has changed and shaped the landscape around Thedinghausen, Bruchhausen-Vilsen, and Hoya. Parts of the water system and individual reservoirs can still be seen today, reminding us of these cultural and technical achievements.You have the opportunity to explore the former Eyterbruch on two predominantly asphalted cycling routes or on the paddling route of the main Melioration canal and the Eyter river. The red cycling route Bruchhausen-Vilsen - Hoya runs in a circular route for approximately 38 km in length.
