Fairytale Hiking in the Bramwald

How imposingly the 21 m high keep towers into the sky! Grandiose views of the Weser alternate with shady resting places in the beech forest.

In the vicinity of Hemeln, along the Frau Holle Trail (X4), circular paths of various lengths invite you to explore the fairytale landscape. Finds of burial mounds prove that settlement in Hemeln and its surroundings began around 1600 BC. The village of "Hemlion" was first mentioned in writing in 834. With its location on the Weser ford and the historic mountain paths, Hemeln had a supra-local significance. Enjoy the wonderful views of the Weser Valley on the circular trails around Hemeln! Past the fairytale experience station, the trail leads from Hemeln to Bramburg Castle. How imposing the 21 m high keep towers into the sky! Here you can see the remains of a medieval hilltop castle that was first mentioned in a document in 1222. The view of the Weser is breathtaking! Later, the trail runs along the coal road, which used to be used to transport charcoal from the Bramwald to the glassworks. You also pass the Uhlenstein, which the Brothers Grimm included in their book of legends. The quartzite block marked an old pasture boundary. The path back to the starting point leads over the "Hünenburg" refuge, of which only a moat remains today. This is where people used to retreat to when predatory hordes approached.
