Around Deister, Süntel, Nesselberg, and Osterwald, on the threshold of the North German Lowland, there was already a productive industrial area in pre-industrial times, favored by the existing mineral resources. Coal mines, sand and limestone quarries, as well as saltworks provided jobs and, due to their economic importance, were also in the focus of the ruler.A network of footpaths and cart tracks covered the region, on which goods and materials were transported and people reached their workplaces, the mines and quarries. Today, the Miners Path offers the opportunity to hike in the footsteps of the past. It runs through Altenhagen, Brünnighausen, Dörpe, and Salzburg, connecting several sections that follow historical routes. The path is consistently marked. Also, due to the varied landscape and panoramic views, a hike on the Miners Path is a very special experience.
