The Easter Wheel City of Lügde looks back on a long history that is still palpable in many places today. In 784, the city was first mentioned in writing as "villa liuhidi." The actual founding of the city of Lügde is dated back to 1245. It was systematically laid out as a "fortified small town" and was the fortified focal point for the territorial politics of the Counts of Pyrmont until 1668.
