Exquisite nature: Diving into the Muschelkalk Sea

The circular route "Diving into the Muschelkalk Sea" is part of both the "Exquisite Nature" in the cultural landscape of Kreis Höxter and the "Eco Paths" in the district of Kassel. It leads over the ridges and through the valley of the Diemel on almost 12 kilometers. Discover beautiful views and extraordinary flora and fauna on this circular tour.
The path is sometimes a narrow forest trail through magnificent beech forests, sometimes it runs along the edge of the forest and offers magnificent views of the Diemel Valley. For a short stretch, you even follow the course of the Diemel towards the Weser and can marvel at the geological exposures of the Lower Muschelkalk. The Diemel is crossed twice along the way. The two villages that are passed - Ostheim and Lamerden - offer many small discoveries. A highlight is certainly the Ostheim Hute with its juniper heaths and the orchids or gentians blooming depending on the season.
