The rock crevices and scree fields of the steep slopes of Ziegenberg and Brunsberg provide numerous animal species with an ideal hiding place. The alpine newt also safely spends the winter here. Its spawning waters are located directly at the foot of Ziegenberg and Brunsberg in the Taubenborn and in the Grundlosen. Due to its size and impressive crest, it resembles a miniature dragon.
Explore the cliffs and rock formations of the Weser slopes near Höxter, be impressed by the fascinating views into the Weser Valley and onto the neighboring Solling. Enjoy great resting opportunities at the Rabenklippen and the Brunsberg-Hütte.
The extensive beech forests of the Weser slopes are also the habitat of numerous rare plant species. In early spring, liverworts, primroses, or mezereon enchant with their brightly blue, yellow, or violet flowers, and in autumn, the beech forest experiences a true explosion of colors: Indian summer at the Weser.
