Description by the author

We will guide you from the starting point ADFC-Station Bad Meinberg through the hilly eastern foothills of the Teutoburg Forest / Eggegebirge. From the Naptetal valley, you climb 160 meters up to the Bellenberg and wind through the forests into the valley of the Heubach. Past Schloß Vinsebeck, you climb up to the next scenic ridge above Sandebeck. After a detour to the "Vulkan Embrio," we climb up a steep natural road to the ridge of the Eggegebirge, briefly descending to the west side towards the NATO road and then back up to the distinctive observation tower on the "Preussische Velmerstot" - 468 m above sea level - the highest point of the Eggegebirge. What's special about this mountain: from 1950 to 1995, the mountain top housed a fortified NATO anti-aircraft missile station. The area was renatured as part of the NSG project, rare pioneer plants have since conquered this extreme location. Today, the observation tower offers a magnificent view of up to 100 km.
The route then steeply descends into the upper Silberbachtal and through vast, lonely forests to the pass crossing "Egge Bundesstraße 1." We cycle on wild forest paths, passing by Barnacken - the highest point of the Teutoburg Forest - to the pass crossing Kleiner Rigi with its hidden archaeological site "Roman Road Traces." Next, we roll steeply downhill 150 meters on a wild track to the natural and cultural monument Externsteine.
The rock inn and the information center invite you to visit, then we roll through the historic old town of Horn and on a meadow trail past the peat extraction plant back to the starting point.
