Soleweg - Kleinbahntrasse-Mittelachse -> Sun road - small railway track median axis

As part of the regional EXPO initiative OWL carried out in the year 2000 and the 1st "Regionale" of the state of NRW, the idea emerged to make the underground brine streams in the Wittekindsland and Lipperland areas accessible above ground in order to connect the spas of the region. The route covers a total of 91 km through the attractive landscape in the southeast of the district. It consists of three sections: "Kleinbahntrasse-Mittelachse" (narrow-gauge railway track central axis), "southern loop" and "northern loop", which can be ridden individually or combined. This allows both endurance and sports enthusiasts, as well as inexperienced cyclists and families with children, to find suitable sections.

The central axis presented here starts in Spenge, follows the old narrow-gauge railway track through Enger along the Bolldammbach stream to Hiddenhausen, continues through the nature reserve "Füllenbruch" to Herford, along the Werre river to Bad Salzuflen, and finally through the northern foothills of the Lipper Bergland to Vlotho. At its end, it connects the northern and southern course. The "Kleinbahntrasse-Mittelachse" is a rather leisurely tour with only a few inclines in the section from Bad Salzuflen to Vlotho.

Mostly independent, asphalted, or gravel bike paths are used. This tour is therefore ideal for cyclists with less stamina, for families with children, or simply for a relaxing bike ride.
