The Velmerstot Route, certified as a quality trail since September 2017, begins in the village of Leopoldstal. From there, it leads up to the highest peak in the Egge Mountains, the Velmerstot. On the twin summit, there is an obelisk made of sandstone and the Egge Tower to discover. From this 17-meter-high wooden structure, you can enjoy a panoramic view over the land of Hermann to the Brocken and into the Soester Börde. The Lippische Velmerstot (approx. 441 meters) is located, as the name suggests, in Lippe, and the Prussian Velmerstot (approx. 464 meters) in the former Prussian territory.
By the way, Velmerstot means the steep slope of Feldrom (Stot = steep slope). Since both peaks have been grazed for many centuries, vast mountain heath areas have developed here. Today, the boundaries of the districts of Lippe, Paderborn, and Höxter meet here. The path down eventually leads to the Silberbach. Hikers enjoy being enchanted and guided by the softly trickling stream. The Silberbach rises near Feldrom and then flows along the western foothills of Velmerstot towards the Heubach. Its impressively shaped gorge, created by nature, is one of the most popular hiking areas in the Teutoburg Forest/Egge Mountains Nature Park.
