Meter-wide funnels open up in the ground, watercourses disappear into the ground and reappear elsewhere... these and other unusual phenomena are typical of karst landscapes such as the Paderborn plateau.
The geographical hike through the salt town of Salzkotten familiarizes visitors with these geological features and leads them on a 12km route through not too steep, wooded terrain.
After the hike, a stopover in the historical center of Salzkotten provides refreshment. The reconstructed graduation tower reminds of the once influential salt production. A visit to the Wewelsburg District Museum is also recommended near the hiking area.
