In many areas, the Netheaue has been able to maintain a natural character to this day. The kingfisher breeds in the steep banks, iridescent dragonflies dance over the water, and trout, grayling, and lamprey spawn on the gravel banks. Luxuriant tall herbaceous vegetation and narrow gallery forests provide habitats for the sedge warbler and nightingale. And in the hinterland, a historically grown small-scale cultural landscape with quiet villages often follows.
