Hiking experience between two mountains
Part of the hiking trail leads along the southwestern foothills of the Obernberg on forest and woodland paths. We pass historical land defenses and enjoy views of fields, meadows, and into the distance.

The leisurely 9 km circular tour starts at the Obernberg hiking car park towards Herford. Along the way, we encounter historical land defenses. They served as a boundary marker of a city border and protection against unwanted guests.
Unforgettable panoramic view at Restaurant Steinmeyer
After crossing the Ellersiekerbach, we turn right towards Stuckenberg. On the hiking trail, we pass directly by Restaurant Steinmeyer on Wüstener Weg. The outdoor terrace invites you to a cozy break and refreshments.

After the break, we hike past Stuckenberg on a curve to the left and soon see the Bismarck tower in front of us.

In 1906, the Herford Bismarck tower was inaugurated after a planning and construction phase of around two years. From the viewing platform at a height of around 23 m, we enjoy the fantastic panoramic view in all directions.
Historical boundary stones between Lippe and Herford
After around 900 m, we reach the Hotel and Restaurant Waldesrand. Slightly downhill, we hike towards the highway and can easily cross it via a pedestrian and cyclist bridge. Now we are back in the Salzufler Stadtforst. This area is also crisscrossed by boundary stones along the former border of Lipperland to the County of Ravensberg and Prussia.
Animals feel comfortable in the Salzufler Stadtforst
Near the Schwaghofes area, we enter a remarkable and worth-protecting area. Numerous rare bat species, colorful and black woodpeckers, and stock doves live in the forest area.

The hiking trail leads us back to the Obernberg hiking car park along the Schwaghof ponds. The Schwaghof pond area is being renaturalized. These ponds used to serve as water supply and later as fire ponds.
To relax after the hike, a visit to the VitaSol thermal bath or the diverse culinary offerings in Bad Salzuflen is enticing.
