Circular hiking trail A3: Truftehain - Schützenplatz - Burgfeld - Truftehain

The Burgfeld, located above (northwest) of Berleburg Castle, is characterized by various hiking trails, historical sites, and quiet rest areas in a fantastic landscape. The A3 hiking trail starting from the Truftehain hiking parking lot circumnavigates the Burgfeld over a length of about 7 km and is well signposted for the average hiker.
After parking the hiking mobile at the parking lot, it is best to continue uphill. After about 200 m at the crossroads, you will find the A3 sign for the first time - from now on, nothing can go wrong. Here you can also take a look at a strange phenomenon at the edge of the forest in the distance: the approximately 6.50 m high golden egg. But don't worry: dinosaurs have not left their marks here, but this is an art object of the Forest Sculpture Trail that connects Bad Berleburg with Schmallenberg.
The path now leads down into the Trufte Valley. In the valley bottom at a bridge, we come across an owl carved by a young forester with a chainsaw. Here we keep left. This stage from here can only be described as follows: pure idyll. The path leads along the Trufte stream, the soothing splashing and gurgling of which quickly calms stressed minds. However, about 3.5 km into the valley, the leisurely stroll is over: now turn left and head uphill towards Berleburger Schützenplatz. Along the way, small biotopes line the path and invite small and big explorers to engage in nature observations together.
At Schützenplatz at 523 m altitude, no oxygen mask is required - the view of the city through storm-felled forests is excellent from here when the weather is clear. The path now continues downhill through the chestnut avenue with its impressive trees along the wayside. At the height of the Ruheforst, turn left - and here it becomes particularly exciting for little hikers. After a short time, the path passes a special little house in the forest - the Christkindhäuschen, where according to legend, the Christkind itself lives. Before Christmas, children leave their wish lists here and receive a response by mail!
The route back to the hiking parking lot from here is now child's play and whets the appetite for a cozy stop.
