Hachen - The second largest village in the city of Sundern, nestled in 10,000 acres of deciduous and coniferous forest, just three kilometers from Lake Sorpe, looks back on a long history. Already in the year 793, Hachen appears in the inventory of goods of the Werden Monastery. Hachen was probably not insignificant in the Middle Ages. This is still evidenced today by the ruins of the castle on the Burgberg, which rises 80 meters above the Röhrtal.
Around 1370, Burg Hachen served as the widow's seat of the last Countess of Arnsberg, Anna. Historically, the castle is one of the most important fortifications in the Sauerland region. Old drawings from the 18th and 19th centuries still show the walls as towering ruins. In 1924, the War Memorial was inaugurated next to it, offering a beautiful view over Hachen. Take a walk along the old Burgstraße with its beautiful half-timbered houses to the Burgberg to learn more about the significance of the castle.
