The 15 km long hiking trail A9 starts at the town hall. From there, the path leads first towards Lohne via Goethestraße to Rennweg. Heading south, follow this path, crossing the L856 towards Neuengeseke (especially idyllic during the rapeseed bloom).
Passing under the beer path below the A 44 motorway leads to Neuengeseke. Here, a small tour of the town is worthwhile, passing by the Evangelical Church.
The path leads back to the industrial park "Lohner Klei", a former British barracks area towards Lohne. You can reach there via Sudweg and then via the historic "Alten Hellweg" (see A 10) to Bad Sassendorf, through the poets' quarter to the town hall.
About the district of Neuengeseke: Neuengeseke, dialectally Niggen Jaisken, is divided into an upper and a lower village, connected by the Haienpoth, a stream that leads to the "Neuengeseker Heide" to the south. The silhouette of the town is unmistakable due to the church tower of the Protestant church "St. Johannes der Täufer". This Romanesque building unmistakably shows the influence of the architectural style of the Hohnekirche in Soest and bears great similarity to the churches in Weslarn and Lohne. The floor plan of the two-aisled hall church with a one-aisled choir is square. The oldest part is the tower, which was built in the first half of the 12th century. The nave dates back to the 13th century. The interior is characterized by the round interior and square exterior apse from around 1220. In the following centuries, the side aisles were provided with gables and turned into a fortified church with arrow slits. The church windows were accordingly set high. Inside, the altars from the 17th century and the pulpit from 1772 deserve special attention. Around the church, buildings with almost the same roof pitch and green areas with tall trees are grouped. Characteristic of Neuengeseke is the construction with rubble stone, which was found near the town early on.
