Small border traffic (Circular hiking trail Hillenkamp)

You start the circular hiking trail directly at the Hillenkamp hiking car park in Elmpt. Follow the asphalt path along the fence surrounding the former British military airfield "Javelin Barracks". In the coming years, a modern energy and industrial park will be created on the former British military area. Numerous buildings, hangars, and a runway of almost 2.5km bear witness to the enormous facility of the British Royal Air Force, which was only handed over to the Federal Republic of Germany at the end of 2015.
Once you have passed through the turnstile, you are already in the Netherlands.
On this circular route, you will discover various plant and animal species. With a little luck, you can observe adders, smooth snakes, newts, various species of frogs, and dragonflies. Also, hobbies, red-backed shrikes, common whitethroats, bluethroats, tree pipits, meadow pipits, woodlarks, nightjars, and many other bird species are at home here. Plants such as bog lilies, sundews, bog myrtle, cranberries, and peat moss thrive here under ideal conditions.
