The hike leads from the historic center of Aldekerk via Kengen and Finkenberg. Kengen was probably settled in ancient times by the Germanic people, who mixed with the Celts retreating northward from the source area of the Meuse and Moselle rivers during the Migration Period. The Junkershof in Fichtenberg is a noble seat that can be traced back to 1369 and was dependent on the Counts of Moers. Being the only noble seat on the heights, it naturally lacked a water defense. The current estate still contains components from the 18th century. Just a little to the west is the St. Quirinus Chapel.
