Mining trail at the Eisernhardt (small round)

The Association for Siegerland Mining (VSB) carried out various projects between 2005 and 2016 to preserve evidence of Siegerland mining in the urban area of Siegen and on the Eisernhardt. Some tunnels of the old mines were uncovered and provided with a new, environmentally friendly development at the mouth. The designs from the 19th century were followed to make the tunnel entrances as authentic as possible. After the completion of the work, these mines were integrated into a circular hiking trail. In the light version of the circular hiking trail, hikers receive information on 10 panels about the topics of Siegerland mining. For well over 2000 years, iron ore as well as valuable non-ferrous metal ores were mined and smelted in the Eisernhardt area. The traces of mining are still visible in many places on the 482m high mountain. The oldest mines were located where the ore veins emerged. We would like to guide you exactly to these places.
