Description by the author

The two- to three-day cycle tour directly along the Erft river and far away from traffic is particular suitable for families and beginners, and for people who want to try out one of the multi-day cycle routes in North Rhine-Westphalia - always knowing that there is a train station nearby if needed. The cycle tour crosses the region of Germany with the largest number of water castles, leads past Roman-era stone relics, sturdy town fortifications and imposing castles from the Middle Ages, splendid palaces from the golden era of the Rhenish nobility, and impressive examples of modern art and technology.
We recommend that you travel to Blankenheim by train. There is just one small hill between the source of the Erft in Nettersheim-Holzmühlheim and Blankenheim.
