Dialects are an integral part of the vibrant everyday language in the Rhineland and especially in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss. Ludwig Soumagne, born in Neuss-Norf in 1927, was one of the prominent dialect poets of his time. His modern lyrical dialect texts fill several poetry collections, but also numerous radio plays and the play "Just don't lose your nerve" testify to his literary talent. His most famous work, "The Litany," has been translated into more than 300 dialects and languages. The author passed away in October 2003.

During his lifetime, the Rhein-Kreis Neuss named its International Dialect Archive after this exceptional poet. In September 2008, the "Ludwig-Soumagne-Weg" was ceremoniously opened in Soumagne's hometown of Neuss-Norf. Along the Norfbach, 17 plaques provide walkers with an insight into the poet's work.
