This 3-kilometer easy hike in the Eifel region leads around the Steinbach reservoir in Kirchheim near Euskirchen.
The reservoir was built between 1934 and 1936. The construction was initiated by the textile industry in Euskirchen and Kuchenheim, which could no longer meet their water needs from the streams since the late twenties. A cast-iron pipeline brought the water to the textile factories.
With the decline of the Euskirchen textile industry after World War II, the reservoir lost its economic significance. Its importance as a local recreational area has remained to this day. A forest swimming pool with an adventure playground makes this short hiking tour an ideal outing for families with children.
