On the circular hiking trail EifelSpur Silberschatz, you will hike in the footsteps of the Roman history of the Eifel region.
Nettersheim-Marmagen is the starting point for the 10 km long hike. The place was already mentioned in Roman times as Vicus Marcomagus and is located on the VIA Agrippa from Trier to Cologne. Marmagen also gained some fame as the birthplace of the ancestors of the famous Eiffel Tower builder Gustave Eiffel.
A special point on the way is the partially reconstructed Matronenheiligtum "Görresburg", on a hill between Nettersheim and Marmagen. Here, in Roman times, the Matronae Aufaniae were venerated. Even today, you can find the occasional offering to the mysterious goddesses in front of their images on the consecrated stones re-erected in the sanctuary. The temple district is part of the Archaeological Landscape Park Nettersheim, from where you have a wonderful view.
