Description by the author

From Lohsdorf, we initially continue along the road towards Sebnitz. Before it swings up to Ulbersdorf, we turn right into the Schwarzbach valley. We now cycle slightly downhill on what is initially a very good surface, always following the yellow line markings. After approx. 1.7 km, we reach the first tunnel of the former narrow-gauge railroad. It is advisable to shorten the trail and ride under the rocky spur in the tunnel. However, the ballast of the old track bed is clearly noticeable here. We also have to survive the next 1,100 meters on a very bumpy track, hopefully without a puncture, until the path improves again shortly before the next tunnel. Our tour now takes us on a hiking trail around the mountain, where, under favorable conditions, we can even spot the artificial ruins of the Goßdorfer Raubschloss. Adventurous riders should not miss the opportunity to take a detour through the second tunnel with the subsequent viaduct over the Schwarzbach - again on a partly bumpy track bed. It's worth it! As we have to go around the mountain, our next destination is the former buttermilk mill, where the Schwarzbach flows into the Sebnitz. Only the foundations are actually still standing. We soon reach them on the well-used hiking trail. After approx. 150 m, however, there is a short steep section that is very difficult to negotiate due to the gravel. At the crest, a path branches off to the left, but we head back downhill and under the aforementioned viaduct.
Watch out! Immediately afterwards, we have to keep sharp left and leave the marked path. After 40 meters there is a railroad keeper's house where we cross the railroad line from Bad Schandau to Sebnitz. After passing the houses, we turn right onto a path that becomes lost in the meadow and runs parallel to the railroad line. About 200m further on you can already see the railroad bridge, the pedestrian bridge to the left (width approx. 900cm!) is slightly lower. After the previous bridge was badly damaged by the floods in 2002, a new one has now been built. Thanks to the stepless arch construction, it should now be possible to cross without assistance. The route continues on an ever-improving road to the village of Kohlühle. After crossing the tracks again, we turn right at the next junction, pass the Goßdorf-Kohlmühle stop and take the narrow road on the left at the next junction approx. 200m further on. This leads us further down the valley, always alongside the railroad line and crossing under it several times, later passing the Porschdorf stop, to the mouth of the Polenz valley. This is where the Polenz and Sebnitz rivers join to form the Lachsbach. Following the watercourse, we now take the public road towards Bad Schandau. The best way to reach Bad Schandau railroad station with its bus connections is via the new Elbe bridge.
