The Moorhenniespfad owes its name to the story "Moorhennies" from 1903 by the Neustadt publisher Wilhelm Sicius. The story takes place between the moor and the Leine River during the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648). The focal point of the action is the Moorkrug (Moorhenniespfad-Station 8, Southern Route).
