The "Liewerfrauen" carried semi-finished or finished steel goods in a basket on their heads from the cottage by the stream or the Wupper uphill to the Solingen merchant offices until the 1920s. They transported 15 to 25 kilograms of weight up to 10 kilometers.
The 15.5-kilometer long Liewerfrauenweg symbolically traces the paths of these women and leads hikers to several historical sites. As a circular route, it connects the former steel goods factory Friedr. Herder Abr. Son, the current start-up and technology center, with the over 400-year-old Wipperkotten on the Wupper.
Walking time: approx. 5 hours.
