Description by the author

From the tranquil Spree town of Spremberg, the route runs along the northern edge of the active Welzow-Süd surface mine. From viewpoints in Wolkenberg, Steinitz and at Gut Geisendorf the size and towering equipment of the mine can be admired.
At Pritzen you can discover impressive and ephemeral art works from two European biennials. The tour continues to Großräschen, where you can enjoy the panoramic view of the future Lake Großräschener See on the IBA terraces.
Finally you reach the state-approved health resort of Senftenberg. Lake Senftenberger See is the best example of successful recultivation. The former surface mine was opened for tourist use more than 40 years ago. Guests have access to excellent bathing areas, numerous water sports facilities, marinas and an amphitheatre.
