Grafschafter Spurensuche- On the trail of old walls

One of the most famous landmarks in Veldhausen is the church built from Bentheim sandstone in the heart of the village. Since at that time the way to the nearest church in Uelsen was too far and arduous in bad weather, the present-day Evangelical Reformed Church in Veldhausen was built in 1411.
The name Veldhausen is derived from the search criteria at that time for a suitable location for the planned church. A central and infertile piece of heathland was sought, which was then called "Veld." Over time, more and more settlers arrived and laid the foundation for today's Veldhausen.
Another landmark of the village is the over 200-year-old windmill and the adjacent mill yard. The windmill, built of Bentheim sandstone, was in operation until the late 1920s. After a long period of decay threatened, it was renovated on the initiative of a working group of the VVV Neuenhaus. Today, you can visit the old miller's house, a bakery, an old bijhus, and a wagon shed with a forge on the mill yard grounds.
