Directions:
The hiking trail starts at the parking lot on "Zeppelinstraße" in the Achim-Ost industrial area. First, head towards the state road, which you cross to enter the beautiful hiking area Wittkoppenberg (1). At the first junction, the unpaved path runs to the left past the fields. Then walk behind the fields to the right onto the path. Continue straight ahead directly into the water protection area (2) with its changing forest and field areas. You will now reach a junction where several paths diverge. Choose the second path to the left, leading into the forest. Turn right at "Ueserdickenstraße" and continue straight. The path continues on the left side. Follow the road. The path takes a right turn at a farmhouse. You are now on the "Ueser Moorweg". At the next intersection, hike right towards Steller Berg (1). Then turn right and cross the grounds of the Achim Golf Course (3). At the next turn, turn right again and continue straight until you reach another fork in the road. Here, turn right again and enter the forest. At the end of this path, turn left and continue straight. You will now reach the state road again, cross it, and return to the starting point of our hike.
Points of Interest/Information:
(1) Wittkoppenberg/Steller Berg:
Small forest areas adorn the scenic and charming region around Steller Berg and Wittkoppenberg. Steller Berg borders the moor area of Baden and Uesen. The moor, although partially drained, still harbors protected plants. During the construction of the golf course, the Scheefmoorgraben was restored into a flowing watercourse. Additionally, new wetland habitats were created, serving as refuges for various amphibians.
Wittkoppenberg (approximately 31 m above sea level) is a mixed forest area dominated by beech and oak trees. Thanks to the "Rotenburger Rinne," an ice-age watercourse at great depth, the entire area is a water protection zone where high-quality drinking water is obtained.
(2) Water Protection Area:
The entire area between the highway and Wittkoppenberg is under water protection. Deep wells in the fields and forests pump groundwater to the Wittkoppenberg waterworks. The waterworks started operating in 1966.
(3) Achim Golf Course:
The golf course, completed in 1998, harmoniously blends into the landscape, featuring ditches, ponds, bunkers, individual tree groups, and forest areas creating a cohesive ensemble. Former agricultural land now provides new habitat for local flora and fauna. An orchard with old tree varieties offers rich pollen sources for multiple honeybee colonies, wild bee species, and other insects. Golfers and visitors are welcome to pick apples for a snack. Public paths cross the golf course, inviting cyclists and hikers.
You can also find the tour on Komoot.
