Description by the author

Bredower Forst Nature Trail was established as early as 1930, making it Germany's first ever nature trail. The forest is home to a remarkably high density of native deciduous tree species within a small area so it is considered to be of particular botanical importance. 16 stations along the trail provide interesting information about the flora in Bredower Forst.

The trail begins at the end of the cul-de-sac Forstweg and crosses Schlaggraben on a small wooden bridge. At night, numerous species of bats that live in the area hunt over the adjacent Große Moosbruchwiese. The path lined with tall grass leads directly across the wetland meadow to the edge of the forest. Here you will come across a dune edge that was formed from drifting sand after the Ice Age and where vegetation has since come to dominate. The path plunges into the wonderfully species-rich mixed forest of hornbeam, with some very old English oak, pine and lime trees.
Finally, on Kugelberg, there is a replica of the historic 1930 signpost, indicating to hikers that the instructive nature trail leads on from here through indigenous forest. The path from is surprisingly diverse, going up and down through the Schneewittchenberge hills. The large memorial stone – “In memory of the people who created and maintained the nature trail” – is a perfect place for a break since there is convenient seating . After a while you reach the edge of the forest where a bench has been set up at the exact spot to enjoy a magnificent view of the Havelland region. The tour continues on an extended trail through the forest, past information points with details of the tree species and plants found here. Black alders and ash trees form a roof of lush green – until suddenly the familiar historic road sign comes into view. From here, simply follow the familiar path back to the starting point.
