Churches & Monasteries Tour

On the circular tour, you will drive through the idyllic Weser landscape, passing churches and monasteries with impressive architecture and a lot of history. The tour takes you from the train station in Rinteln through the historic old town. In the picturesque city center, visitors can expect a colorful mix of half-timbered houses and Weser Renaissance, and the marketplace invites you to linger. The next highlight follows shortly behind Rinteln. The former Benedictine monastery Möllenbeck is one of the best-preserved late medieval monastery complexes in Germany. Via Exten, you will continue along the Weser to Großenwieden. At the Gierseil ferry, you can take a nice picnic break in good weather and admire the ferry. On the other side of the Weser, the path leads through Welsede and Hessisch Oldendorf with the remarkable historic old town to Fischbeck with the well-known eponymous women's collegiate foundation, which is still inhabited by collegiate women today. Along the Weser, you will return to Rinteln. Throughout the entire route, you will learn more details about the many churches along the wayside.
