Peat route - From peat to peat

The cycle path starts at the impressive Diepholzer Castle, leads over the Diepholzer Fladder, past meadows and fields along the Grawiede to St. Hülfe. It continues over Heede across the Hunte to Aschen. Rivers like the Strothe, the Grawiede, or the Hunte are crossed repeatedly.

The first highlight is the new visitor platform in the Aschener Moor, inspired by the excavations on the plank road PR 6. Park your bike and follow the approximately 1 km long and 1.5 to 3 m wide platform with information boards. Learn about both the excavations and the moor landscape. A comic reveals how the leather shoe found during the excavations could have ended up here....!

The route continues south through Ossenbeck, on the outskirts of Diepholz, past the gravel pit to the second highlight: The moor adventure trail in the Diepholzer Moor. Park your bike at the entrance and follow the 2 km long circular path. Here you can learn about the flora and fauna in the moor.

The route leads back to Diepholz and ends again at Diepholzer Castle.

Especially in April/May, when the cotton grass blooms in the moor, or in autumn during the heather blossom, a visit to the two moors is particularly worthwhile.
