The hiking trail is varied and runs along forest, forestry, and field paths, sometimes only as a narrow footpath. In addition to the actual route, smaller detours are recommended: to the rest area at the Salzgitter-Lichtenberg geological path with information board, to the renaturalized area of the former Haverlahwiese open-cast mine, and to the BUND Waldhaus Altenhagen. The route itself is continuous and well signposted. The final ascent in the summer of 2021 turned out to be rather overgrown, so it is advisable to make a detour around the BUND Waldhaus in order to return to the hiking car park via the footpath next to the road. Adventurers can also easily find their way back via the actual path 25.
