4th Stage: Wilderness Trail

The fourth and final stage of the Wilderness Trail is perfect for a day hike: from the destination Zerkall, the train regularly takes you back towards Heimbach. Along the way, songbirds like nightingales and spotted flycatchers greet you and invite you to a concert in the great outdoors here in the north of the Eifel National Park. Majestic oaks rise up in the Hetzinger Forest, guiding the way with their gnarled branches. Spring flowers bloom competitively in the Schliebachtal, and cows graze peacefully on the lush meadows.
Tips for a lazy day in Hürtgenwald-Zerkall:
Take a kayak or canoe trip from Heimbach to Zerkall on the Rur River (possible from July 15 to February 28). Visit the National Park Information Point in Zerkall. Visit the National Park Gateway in Nideggen. Here, the "Treasure Trove of Nature" awaits you in an accessible, multilingual exhibition. Visit Nideggen Castle. Visit the "Rur and Rock" exhibition at Nideggen-Brück Station.
