Kingwinter - Around Thomasberg

The hiking trail starts at the new parking lot belonging to Kloster Heisterbach and was created as part of the Regionale 2010 projects. Passing by the Weilberg, which reveals much of the geological history of the Siebengebirge, we reach the Kasseler Heide with fields and orchards. Through the quiet, picturesque Lauterbach valley, we climb up to the Blauer See and descend again through orchards to the ICE railway line accompanied by the highway. Only briefly does the noise of the traffic routes give us an insight into the most recent landscape changes before we steeply ascend through new residential areas towards Kleiner Oelberg and immerse ourselves in the peaceful forest landscape on the edge of Thomasberg. And here again, deep crater lakes by the wayside, which have one thing in common: stone extraction. Through the sparse deciduous forest with a lot of holly stands a small circular path that the former estate of Buschhof has created. At the edge of the tennis courts, a beautiful forest path branches off, leading us to the Rosenauwiesen, which represent a valuable habitat with their scattered orchards. At the wayside, we now find the inn Waidmannsruh and turn off towards Stenzelberg after the terrace, another quarry that now serves as a protected habitat and is closely linked to Kloster Heisterbach as a former stone supplier.
