South Tour Location

From the center of the idyllic air spa town Lage-Hörste, not only does the "Große Tour Lage" begin, but also the approximately 32 km long bike tour in the southern part of Lage. Here, the focus is particularly on the three old church parishes Lage, Stapelage, and Heiden, which date back to between 800 and 1,000 AD. Along the routes, you can discover these highlights:
Johannissteine
Three mighty granite blocks from the Ice Age form the Johannissteine. They are both a ground and natural monument and exude a mystical atmosphere, especially during the winter solstice. The orientation of the stones and several carvings suggest that our ancestors used the stones as (pre-)prehistoric calendar installations. The biotope around the stones offers a magnificent view over the meadows and fields of Lage and invites you to relax.

Botanical Fragrance Garden of TAOASIS
In the botanical fragrance garden on the company grounds of TAOASIS, over 200,000 plants grow. In addition to the large lavender field, you can see almost all important aromatic medicinal plants and herbs there. Furthermore, fascinating Mediterranean plants and fragrant exotics await you. Here, you can discover the wonders of nature with all your senses.

The church village of Heiden
The church village of Heiden is first mentioned in the year 1151. The center of the village is formed by the Gothic hall church with its twisted church tower. Surrounded by small and charming half-timbered houses, this square offers you not only a beautiful photo motif but also a good opportunity for a break.

The historical town hall
The historical town hall was built in the years 1863 to 1865. In 1904 and 1905, it was redesigned by the well-known Lagenser city architect Gustav Meßmann, as you can see it today.

Ziegler Fountain on the marketplace
The Ziegler Fountain in the middle of the marketplace is a symbol of the long-standing Ziegler tradition. From the 18th to the 20th century, the "Mäckelmarkt" was held here, where Ziegler craftsmen and masters concluded their contracts for the coming year from December to February.

Technikum
The Technikum, built in neoclassical style in 1925, served as an engineering school until 1970, where, among others, Ziegler engineers were trained. Since 1995, the Technikum has been a cultural center, housing the music school, the VHS Lippe-West, and the Sibylle Dotti Art Foundation.
Tip: Before or at the end of your bike tour, we recommend taking a short detour to Stapelage. The small village boasts an impressive church. Its foundation dates back to the Carolingian era (around 790 AD). Inside the church, you will find one of the oldest baptismal fonts in Ostwestfalen, which was created around 1100 from the material of the Externsteine. Besides the church, you can discover other historical buildings such as the peasant castle or the Stapelage manor house.
