Dächelsberg circuit

AROUND THE SUNNY-WARM ROCK WALL
The Dächelsberg looks back on a fiery past as a volcanic peak. Here in the quarry, its basalt core was mined for around 100 years. From the viewing tower, there is a wonderful view of the former quarry wall. A panoramic panel reveals interesting details about rocks, habitats, and inhabitants of the old quarry. The area is now a nature reserve and may only be entered for necessary tree and meadow pruning. This way, the unobstructed view is preserved, and the sun-loving plants and animals receive enough sunlight. Plenty of sun is also promised by the Dächelsberg circuit starting here around the village of Oberbachem.

THE DÄCHELSBERG CIRCUIT
At Dächelsberg, a 7.3 km long varied and historically exciting circular tour awaits curious hikers. Five locations tell the story of a fiery past and the diverse use of volcanic rocks. The viewing tower at the starting point Dächelsberg allows a view into the nature reserve and the former quarry, where basalt was once mined for road construction. On the Dächelsberg circuit, you will discover the connection between the "Eselsweg" and the Cologne Cathedral, as well as what the Jette pit has to do with refractory ceramics. Passing by beautiful meadows and fruit trees, the path leads to the church of the Holy Three Kings adorned with trachyte. In the former Laura mine, zinc, lead, and copper ores were mined underground.
